Today, Mrs. Howard is sharing the Chinese culture through literature. She wore a traditional Chinese silk shirt while reading A Big Mooncake for Little Star written by Grace Lin. The students were given an opportunity to see a Mooncake.
A Mooncake, in the Chinese culture represents togetherness and completeness. These are typically shared during the Harvest Moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival. It represents a time of reunion and prosperity for families much like the union of Big Star and Little Star in the story.
Literature is a great way to expose students to many traditions. Literature spans multi-subject areas. The book introduced the phases of Earth's moon through a story. At Mariposa, we are lucky to have amazing instructors in all areas who value the importance of expanding our students knowledge through words and experiences.
